      ALE has been involved in the manufacture of Functional Topographic surfaces for more than 30 years. This privately owned company has provided leadership through innovation in the sector of laser engraving machine manufacture. These machines are used to place micro-textures onto rollers. To date, ALE has supplied more than 350 systems worldwide. Our machinery is used in an extensive range of industries having the commonality of requiring laser engraved microstructures to provide value and function through topography. Laser engraved Functional Topography describes a surface that has functionality provided to the surface by the laser. This functionality could be to hold ink, for Flexo, Gravure or Anilox rollers, or to create a surface used for embossing or imprinting a substrate. Printed electronics, optical films, anti-microbial and low-friction surfaces are further examples of Functional Topography. Machines range from 0.6m-7m roller length capability and up to 1m diameter. Laser type and wavelength is application or material specific. Materials processed include metals, ceramics, rubber, natural and synthetic polymers.

      ALE has designed a revolutionary laser technology that breaks the conventional link between laser beam shape and cell shape for the ceramic anilox market.

      Product introduction:

      Twin Track Laser Engraving Technology is targeted at the ceramic anilox and coatings & applicator sectors. This new state of the art laser technology sets asides the historic link between the shape of a laser beam and the shape of a cell. This new approach dynamically shapes the beam’s impact on the ceramic being engraved. Historically, with laser engraving, there has been a single-track approach of changing the size of a focused laser beam until it matched the size and volume of the required cell. The new Twin Track approach dynamically changes the laser power and laser beam position throughout a cell in order to change the cell shape or profile. This facilitates the engraving of flatter and wider bottomed cells, offering higher volume and improved ink release characteristics for the Anilox roll market. Advantages of this new technology include: Shallower flat-bottomed cells give higher volume for a given depth. Shallower flat-bottomed cells release more of the ink held in a cell. Shallower flatter bottomed cells are easier to clean. Shallower flatter bottomed cells are less prone to plug. This gives rise to longer print runs before cleaning. Anilox roller cleaning is more efficient, less time & effort spent. Due to the improvement in ink release, higher print density can be achieved at higher press speed.
